Idioms are special sayings that you must not take literally.

Dit beteken iets anders as wat die woorde sê. They mean something different from what the words say. Voorbeeld: “As jy sê iemand het lang vingers, beteken dit nie sy vingers is regtig lank nie! Dit beteken hy steel.” For example, if you say someone has long fingers, it doesn’t really mean their fingers are long! It means he steals. Idiome maak jou taal interessant en lekker om te praat!

He has silly or impractical ideas. Sy oë is groter as sy maag Hy skep te veel kos op. He takes more food than he can eat. Sy staan met ‘n bek vol tande Sy weet nie wat om te sê nie. She doesn’t know what to say. Hy slaap soos ‘n klip Hy slaap baie diep. He sleeps very deeply. Hulle is soos hond en kat Hulle baklei heeltyd. They fight all the time. Hy het die kat aan die stert beet Hy hanteer iets verkeerd.

He is handling something the wrong way. Dit reën katte en honde Dit reën baie hard. It’s raining very hard. 4. Nog Idiome Idioom Betekenis English meaning Die appel val nie ver van die boom af nie Die kind is soos die ouer. The child is like the parent. Hy draai om die pot Hy sê nie reguit wat hy bedoel nie. He avoids saying something directly. Hy maak van ‘n muis ‘n olifant Hy oordryf.

He exaggerates. Die spyker op die kop slaan Presies reg sê. To hit the nail on the head. Daar is ‘n slang in die gras Iets is verdag. Something suspicious is going on. Sy het 'n kort lont Sy raak vinnig kwaad. She has a short temper. Hy sit op ‘n hoë perd Hy dink hy is beter as ander. He thinks he is better than others. Die poppe gaan dans Daar gaan moeilikheid wees.
